Are the Operas going on live?

No – The fragments of opera that you can explore with the usher are all pre-recorded, the ushers are live and ready to chat and guide you through pre-recorded sound. This may be from rehearsals, or it may be extracts from the completed work, that varies from production to production.

How do I choose a particular opera?

If you’d like to know a bit more in advance you have a look at the Featured Productions page. There is no need to know anything in advance though, you can simply call and make choices.

Do I need to call the Norway number if I want to connect with Bergen National Opera?
No – you can voyage anywhere through our call centre  set up – you call your local number and make your choices in the menus.

What does it cost to call?

It is the price of your normal local telephone call in any of the countries we are providing a number for. If you have call minutes in a mobile phone package these calls would be included in that.

Can I call in from outside Europe?

Yes you can, however we don’t have a local number for you, we advise you to call whichever international number offers the language you are looking for. This will however be an international call so beware of cost! We think the best option might be using VoIP like Skype or other similar app and adding some credit to be able to call landlines. This is not expensive – much better than racking up an international call charge!

I’m not able to call in when the project is live, can I hear it afterwards?

The focus of this event is the live connection, it is about the experience of calling, talking with an usher and them guiding you through their opera and their experience. However we will document aspects of the event and share some highlights in the future.

Where are the ushers?

They are all over Europe from Iceland to Spain. They are wherever they are living right now. Some are in lockdown, some are in countries where those restrictions have been lifted. Most will be at home. The ushers log in through a browser and the call centre connects the calls to their own phone, so they can be anywhere.

Which languages is this happening in?

Our ushers speak many languages, all of them speak English too, so you can make any selection and communicate in English. All the menus are also in English, but if you are calling on of our European numbers, say in Norway or Spain you will hear Norwegian or Spanish first then English.

Do I need to be a fluent English speaker to call?

No, lets say you are Spanish and don’t speak great English you can either stay with Teatro Real where they speak Spanish, or bravely use some English to travel further – the ushers are very international you may find someone somewhere else who speaks you language, but you certainly will find a warm welcome even if your feel your English isn’t great – don’t worry.
